 Sociology and History



Individuals and society can never disconnect themselves from their past because it is a laboratory.  To ignore the results getting from the laboratory of the past is to commit a mistake. S, the dream to make the present era peaceful and future of glory depend on the study of the past. According to Ibn-e- Khaldoon, history focus on the politics, values, norms, beliefs, and condition of the past nations and societies. 

Sociology studies the history of social institutions which creates awareness about the past. The rraints of norms and customs and social changes are also provided by history. 

Similarity: 

The similarity between history and sociology can be described under the headings. 

Events:

Bothe the subjects study the habits of human beings and social events. History no only provides the record of the events of the past but it also takes a view of serial events of past to present. While sociology does study these events in the form of social stratification. It also deals with those events and causes based on which these events take place. 

Civilization:

Both the subjects are associated with each other on the basis of historical sociology which deals with relationships, customs, institutions of the past, and how civilization has evolved regarding its socio-cultural change.

Rise and fall:

History describes the causes of the rise and fall of different societies. It keeps a record of their rise and fall so that it may prove useful for the construction of the present societies. Ibn-e-Khaldun has also described the rise and fall of nations in the form of cyclical theory.

Dissimilarity:

  1. The historian only deals with the events of the past whereas sociology deals with the past, present, and future planning. History only describes the events while sociology describes the causes and explanation of these events. 
  2.  History deals with battles and war, but sociology deals with their cause.
  3. History deals with specific events, but sociology deals with those events which take place in prepetition.
  4.  sociology uses scientific methods and techniques in the data, but in History, these scientific methods are not commonly used.
